Hands down the greatest benefit from me starting this blog has been the constant exposure to absolutely top notch music. With that out of the way, I can now present to you a release that I’d be honored to rage to at any show, the “Stringer Bell EP” by Brooklyn duo Dat Beat. To start, their title track has a powerful jump-up rhythm and just enough breaks to help a clubtown raver regain his energy. Lots of moombahcore tracks out there are 1 minute of intro followed by 3 minutes of continuous warps, wobbles, beeps, and what have you. Stringer Bell – and the other two tracks on this release – finds a perfect balance between ‘melting you face off’ and giving you time to enjoy the melody of the song. “Synthesthesia” is more lyrical with a few more progressive elements, and when it drops it sounds just as high calibre as a Dillon Francis production. The EP closes with “C MEE,” a stranger, light-hearted track with happy synths you can’t help but crack a smile to.
