Taking transnational moombahton to a whole new level, Janaka Selecta brings classical, folk, and roots styling of South America, Arabia, Jamaica, and Africa together under one moniker. Janaka started out making dubstep and a lot of what he learned carries over to his moombahton. If you take his track “Globocore” for example, it has all the warps and wobbles you’d expect to hear from a good dubstep track, but still manages to pull off a great big-room up tempo vibe. “Selecta” is no less impressive, with highly original progressions and interesting combinations of instruments. In fact, the only complaint I have about these two tracks is that I can’t download them right now…. a man can dream.
